Born in Augsburg, Otto Blumel studied architecture at "Munich`s technical university". He later changed to painting where he attended the well known "Debitzsch" school. From 1907 to 1914 he was head of design department of "Vereinigte Werkstaetten fuer Kunst im Handwerk", Munich who at the time where trends-setters for interior decoration and architecture.
