Zerodisegno is a producer of innovative residential furniture and objects by leading designers such as Gaetano Pesce, Denis Santachiara and Karim Rashid. Along with ZERO System-the manufacturer of high-end architectural display, exhibition and work systems designed by De Pas DUrbino Lomazzi-Zerodisegno comprises Quattrocchio, an over eighty-year-old, family-owned company based near Milan in Alessandria, Italy.
Mimmo Rotella was born in Catanzaro, Italy, on October 7, 1918 and currently lives in Milan. He is considered a leading artist of the twentieth century, having pioneered the use of advertising and cinema posters in collages that expressed both the modern, urban condition and a crisis in art. Rotella began in the 1950s by ripping posters off the street and then reapplying them to canvas. Later, in the 1960s, he developed a method of serial production by projecting negatives of his images onto an emulsified canvas so that they essentially became mechanically reproduced. In subsequent years, he has furthered his experiments, applying blank sheets of paper onto advertising posters and layering images on top, for example, or incorporating the use of graffiti.
In 1992, Rotella was conferred the title of Officiel des arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, and in 2002, he was conferred the Gold Medal for visual arts by the Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
