About Our Vintage Cabinet & Armoire Collection
Metro Retro Furniture carries one of the widest selections of mid-century case goods in Texas. From tall teak Danish Modern wardrobes to American walnut display cabinets and Italian lacquered armoires, our inventory spans the 1950s through the 1970s. These large-format storage pieces are sourced from estates and collections, offering significantly better build quality and material integrity than contemporary alternatives. Every piece is inspected at our warehouse before listing.
What to Look for in Vintage Case Goods
• Hinge stability: Large doors put stress on hinges. We check all hinges for sag; original brass or steel piano hinges are a mark of high-quality period production.
• Interior configurations: Mid-century armoires often feature highly specialized interiors with built-in drawers, tie racks, and adjustable shelving. Original interior fittings increase the value of the piece.
• Base integrity: Heavy case goods require stable bases. Look for well-joined plinth bases or tapered legs that sit flush without wobbling.
