About Our Vintage Coffee Table Collection
Metro Retro Furniture carries a curated selection of mid-century modern coffee tables — from freeform organic shapes to the precise geometry of 1960s modernism. Our collection includes both named designer pieces and high-quality anonymous production from the 1950s through the 1970s, spanning materials including teak, walnut, chrome, glass, and travertine. All pieces are held at our 30,000 sq ft Pasadena, TX warehouse.
What to Look for in a Vintage Mid-Century Coffee Table
• Surface condition: Look for water rings, deep scratches, or veneer peeling on wood tops. Light patina is expected and acceptable; structural veneer damage is not.
• Glass inserts: Original glass is often plate glass or smoked — replacement tempered glass is a sign of an older break. Check for color consistency across the surface.
• Base stability: All four legs should sit flat. Wobble indicates either a bent leg, loose joint, or warped top. Minor adjustments are easy; structural bends in chrome bases are not.
• Maker's marks: Tables by Herman Miller, Knoll, or Saarinen for Knoll will have labels or stamps. Look on the underside of the top or inside the base structure.
Featured Designers in This Collection Our coffee table inventory periodically features work by Eero Saarinen, Warren Platner, Isamu Noguchi, and Florence Knoll, as well as high-quality anonymous Scandinavian and American production pieces.
