About Our Vintage Mid-Century Desk Collection
Metro Retro Furniture carries a rotating selection of mid-century and vintage desks suited for both home offices and trade installations. Our desk inventory spans the full range of period production — from sleek teak and walnut executive desks of the late 1950s to sculptural pedestal designs of the 1960s and 70s. All pieces are sourced from estates and collections across the country and inspected at our 30,000 sq ft Pasadena, TX warehouse before listing.
What to Look for in a Vintage Mid-Century Desk
• Drawer function: Open and close each drawer fully. Slides should be smooth. Stuck drawers often indicate humidity damage or warping that is difficult to fully correct.
• Surface: Desks take heavy use — look carefully at the writing surface for deep gouges, cigarette burns, or veneer delamination. Light wear is expected and desirable; structural damage is not.
• Hardware: Original pulls, locks, and key escutcheons are period-specific. Replacements in a non-period style reduce value and authenticity.
• Sizing: Mid-century executive desks are often larger than contemporary home office sizing. Measure your space carefully — many period desks run 60" or wider.
Frequently Asked Questions Q: Are vintage desks practical for everyday use? A: Yes — mid-century desks were built for heavy commercial use and are typically more durable than contemporary flat-pack furniture. Many of our pieces come from office clearances and have decades of daily use on them.
