About Our Vintage Office Chair Collection
Mid-century office chair design is one of the underappreciated corners of the era — combining serious ergonomic innovation with the clean aesthetic of modernist furniture. Metro Retro Furniture carries a rotating selection of authentic vintage office and task chairs, including aluminum group pieces, classic swivel chairs with original upholstery, and drafting chairs. All pieces are inspected at our Pasadena, TX warehouse for mechanism function, caster condition, and upholstery integrity.
What to Look for in a Vintage Office Chair
• Mechanism function: All tilt and height-adjustment mechanisms should operate smoothly. Stiff or broken mechanisms are expensive to repair — factor that into your evaluation.
• Casters: Original casters are often hard rubber or aluminum. Worn casters can be replaced affordably, but original hard-floor casters are preferable on hardwood.
• Upholstery: Original leather or fabric in good condition adds significantly to value. Cracking leather on aluminum group chairs is very common — budget for reupholstery if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can I use a vintage office chair at a standing desk? A: Many vintage office chairs don't have the same height-adjustment range as modern task chairs. Check the listed seat height range — most mid-century task chairs top out at 18–21" seat height, which pairs well with standard-height desks.
